It’s hard not to be a fan of Google’s new logo. Over the years, Google’s often updated logo has received a lot of attention. Similar to Apple, it seems that every time Google gets a new logo, the internet is buzzing over it. There have been some critics, which is examined further by heavy.com, but overall most of the response we’ve seen has been positive. So to it break everything down, we’ll explore why it makes sense and what we’ve seen over the internet in the past couple of days.
Why it Makes Sense
The rebranding of Google’s logo comes less than a month after Google announced its new parent company, Alphabet. So it makes sense that the company is implementing a new visual identity, a change that had a lot of people doing a double take at their computer screens when they went to the search engine.
Compared to previous updates, this does seem to be its biggest change yet, but a positive one. Google has said goodbye to the serif fonts and introduced a grotesque, sans serif typeface for its logo. The “G” is another important feature of the new logo, and you can tell how it has been stretched out a little bit to emphasize its importance.
It’ll be interesting to see the different animation that is created with this new logo, but if you go to Google’s homepage, you can see that Google is already off to a creative start with how it has introduced the new logo on its homepage.
Breaking Down the Internet’s Response
Not everything has been positive, but how could you possibly expect that. Google has received some backlash from people that say it copied Qwant’s new logo, which does some eerily similar.

Regardless, I think Google’s new logo is a better, more simpler logo than Qwant’s. If they did want to copy Qwant’s logo, they made a lot better looking.
